History

1st North Grimsby can trace its history back to the mid 1950's when a group of citizens, mainly farmers along Ridge Road, decided to sponsor the group. 1st North Grimsby had a cub pack and scout troop led by Joe Roberts and his son, Tony, respectively. They met in the old Alway public school building for several years. At some point, the sponsorship was taken over by the Grimsby Legion. A hut was obtained and moved to a location near Beamer's Falls where it remains today. Many former and current scouters can call 1st North home - even if not their first home. Among them are Russ Kelk, Bill Nolan, Pat Brodie and Fred and Sharon Oldfield. Another long-time supporter of 1st North (and of Fruitbelt) was the late Bill Morison who wrote newspaper articles on Scouting for the Grimsby paper for many years.
